Authory is an all-in-one platform for writers. Basically what it does is it imports all your articles from anywhere on the Internet that you have published or will publish to and stores a full-text, fully formatted copy of it on your Authory page. There are other features such as collecting email subscribers to join your newsletter and analytics, but in this review, I will focus mainly on the backing up feature and why it is so amazing.

Gathering Your Work — Past, Present, Future

No matter where you have written to in the past, where you are publishing to right now, and who you plan to write for in the future, Authory gathers all your writing in the same place. Depending on your own settings, you can use Authory as a backup for your own viewing, or you can use it as a place for viewers to find all your work in the same place! It’s the easiest way to show all your work in one place.

Writing for other publications but want to have your own portfolio page?

This is definitely for you. If you do not write on your own website and write for publications like Forbes or platforms like Medium, your articles are buried in a sea of content among a lot of different content creators. You might want a home for your writing. With Authory, you can have a writers’ profile of your own with a URL of author.com/yourName with all your articles in it, alongside your social media links, and the option to opt-in for newsletters for fans of your work.

Writing on multiple sites?

If you have a blog, and you write on Medium, and you also contribute to publications or media outlets, chances are you have your articles scattered all across the Internet. If so, you probably should consider finding a home for all your articles. It would be tragic that somebody who is interested in your writing has a hard time finding all your articles on the Internet because they are all over the place. Authory is able to import articles from multiple sources, gathering all your articles at the same place while still making it very clear to visitors where the articles came from.

”But it is illegal for me to repost my work elsewhere.”

Worry not. Authory allows several different display methods for your articles. For example, if you have an article published on Bloomberg, your article will be backed up on your Authory page as well.

Public: when users click on your articles that are displayed public-ly, the article will open in full on the Authory site and they will be able to read the entire thing there.

Preview: when users click on your articles that are displayed in preview, they will be redirected to the original article on the Bloomberg site. Your profile page only acts as a repository of links for the readers.

Following through with the example, if Bloomberg does not allow you to republish your article to another site, you can simply set your article display mode to preview and there won’t be an issue since the reader can only read your article on the Bloomberg site. Only the title of your article, the publication date, and the source will be available for the reader on the Authory page.

Private Backups

Besides making it easy for people to see all your articles in the same place, it is equally, or probably even more beneficial to you as the writer. No matter what display mode you configure your articles to be in, you, as the writer, always have access to the full-text version of the article on Authory. You always have the fully formatted, complete article with you on Authory as a backup. This makes Authory the safe house for all your articles.

Private Display Mode

There is another display mode that I did not mention earlier, and that is the private display mode.

Private: Articles in private are only accessible by the account owner, and not visible to site visitors.

This unlocks a completely different use case for Authory. It can be used purely as a backup for all the articles you have written in the past and all the articles you are going to write in the future.

Other Features

As I mentioned at the very beginning, Authory has other powerful features built into it that would be helpful for writers such as newsletters and analytics. Feel free to check out their offerings on the Authory website.

How is this useful to me?

I have articles posted on Medium. I plan to have my own personal website soon, and I will write about more personal stuff there since I don’t have an algorithm or publishers to please (not that I am obligated to do so here on Medium, but I am still somewhat pressured to do so just by being here). With Authory, I know I will have one place for everybody interested in my writing to see my work. If I one day decide to delete my Medium account or my own website after writing on it, I can rest assured that I have a backup of all my previous work on Authory.

On Authory, you can also categorize your articles into different “Collections”. That is a feature that I think I would rely on heavily as I start to write about a wider variety of topics.

Pricing

This product costs $8 per month if billed annually, and $10 per month if billed monthly. Personally, I think the price is quite reasonable when you compare them to other managed hosting solutions.

Click on this link to sign up and you will get to try Authory for free for an entire month. However, if you are a writer, you should continue reading. The Authory Review Program which I will talk about in a second might give you a chance to get Authory for free for one year.

Self-hosting costs

To put that price into perspective, the price for hosting your own WordPress site is $8.99 on Bluehost (Long term game. We are using renewal rates here. Discounted rates are only available for the first billing term however long that might be). You would be given a domain name for free for the first year and renewal of the domain name is another estimated $10 per year.

Wix and Squarespace costs

If you look at popular website builders that are friendly for the not-so-technical people which is the absolute majority, they easily exceed $10 per month billed annually.

Deal for Writers — Authory Review Program

If you are willing to write a review about them they are willing to give you your first year for free. I am not sure how long this deal will last, but better grab your opportunity while it does last (I grabbed mine). You can find this in the pricing section of the site. Just make sure to click on “learn more” and read the guidelines thoroughly. They are very specific in terms of how you should proceed with the review program.

Signing Up for the Authory Review Program

You have to register your account, but you cannot complete your registration if you want to participate in the program. You have to stop at the payment method page, and then send them an email telling them you are interested in joining the Authory Review Program. Just make sure you read through the specifics, I am only giving you the gist of it.

Final Verdict

Authory is an extremely convenient solution for writers that want to find a home for all their written articles online. Authory was made for writers in mind. It provides convenience for writers by taking care of all technicalities that might trouble a writer, so writers can focus on writing and worry less about all the web stuff. I find it extremely easy and fun to use, and I believe you would too.

If you want a home on the Internet for your articles, but don’t want to go through the trouble of figuring out how to do so, let Authory do everything for you.
